Gabi Ngcobo (South Africa) Advisory Board

Gabi Ngcobo is a curator and artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. Her curatorial projects include Second to None for Iziko South African National Gallery 2006, Olvida quien soy/Erase me from who I am at the Centro Atlantico de Arte Moderno (CAAM) at the Canary Islands, Las Palmas, 2006 and CAPE 07. In 2000 she co-founded 3rd Eye Vision, a collective of artists based in Durban and recently re-launched in Cape Town. As a projects coordinator of the collective she has initiated exhibitions and ran programmes that brought artists together and introduced the arts to new audiences. Ngcobo is a founder member of the Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA) and has served as its Western Cape co-chair and National Representative. She has taken part in residencies, research and workshop programmes in South Africa, Switzerland, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Senegal and USA. In 2004 she worked as Kwa-Zulu Natal editor for Art Throb webzine and contributes regularly to Art South Africa, a quarterly journal of the arts. Ngcobo has worked as assistant Curator at the South African National Gallery and currently works as Head of Research for Cape Africa Platform (CAP).

Her writings are featured in publications such as ReVisions: Expanding the Narrative of South African Art, Ed: Hayden Proud, UNISA Press, Women's Spaces, ed; Stina Edblom and Only half the picture, STE/Michael Stevenson. She was guest designer for Chimurenga vol.8 We are all Nigerians issue edited by Ntone Edjabe.
